Mission & Philosophy | By the Sea Recovery San Diego
At By the Sea Recovery, our mission is to provide structured, accountable, and community-driven sober living for men in early recovery in San Marcos, North County San Diego. We believe recovery happens one present moment at a time — through routine, responsibility, peer support, and honest leadership.
Founded by Mark Gladden, a military veteran and person in long-term recovery, By the Sea Recovery is built on the belief that men thrive when given structure, accountability, and a genuine recovery community.
Our Recovery Philosophy
- Structure Creates Stability: Early recovery requires predictable routine to break old patterns and build new ones. Our daily schedule anchors residents in purpose from morning to lights-out.
- Accountability Builds Responsibility: Clear expectations, random drug and alcohol testing, and peer accountability reinforce the habits recovery requires. See our house guidelines.
- Professional Oversight: By the Sea Recovery uses a paid-staff model — not live-in peer managers — so residents receive consistent, experienced support.
- Community Matters: North County San Diego offers an active recovery network, employment opportunities, and a grounded environment well-suited for rebuilding independence.
- Independence Is the Goal: Sober living is a bridge, not a destination. We support residents in returning to work, repairing relationships, and building a stable, self-sufficient life.
