By the Sea Recovery is a men's sober living home located in San Marcos, North County San Diego. We help men move from treatment into real life, with the structure, accountability, and community that make long-term sobriety possible.

Residents are expected to participate, stay accountable, and follow house structure. When they do, they grow. When they don't, we address it.

Active Staff Oversight

This home is not run remotely. Leadership and staff are actively involved, present, and engaged in the day-to-day environment.

Connected to Outside Clinical Support

When appropriate, residents may be connected to outpatient services and MAT through outside or affiliated clinical providers. These services are not provided by BTS directly, and participation is based on individual need.

Progress, Not Perfection

We don't expect perfect recovery, we expect honest effort. Our staff meet residents where they are and help them build real momentum, one day at a time.

90-Day Minimum. Here's Why.

A 90-day minimum gives residents time to build routine, accountability, and connection before moving too quickly into independence.

We are not the right fit for everyone, and that's intentional.

What Living Here Actually Feels Like

When a new resident arrives, we walk the house together. We show him where his food goes, how the shared spaces work, and introduce him to the men who will become his community.

The next morning, we check in: How'd you sleep? How's the room feel? Did you meet everyone? That moment, when someone is finally settling in, is what this is all about.

Some things are non-negotiable:

• Random drug and alcohol testing
• Required house meetings
• Chores and shared responsibility
• Respect for the house and neighborhood

Getting started begins with a conversation, not a commitment. Whether you’re calling for yourself or a family member, we’ll talk about what’s going on, explain how the house works, and discuss availability.

Visit the house

Come see the home, learn about daily life and expectations, and talk through whether it feels like the right environment. A family member is welcome to visit first.

Meet the prospective resident

Mark meets with each man before deciding whether BTS is the right fit. If a family member toured without him, we’ll arrange that conversation separately.

Discuss a bed offer

If the fit is right and a bed is available, Mark will explain the room, cost, house expectations, and offer. You can take time to consider the decision.

Accept and set a move-in date

If you accept the offer, we’ll agree on a move-in date and explain the paperwork, payment, and preparations.

Move in

On arrival, we’ll complete the move-in process, go over the house expectations, and help you get settled.
