Do You Have to Be in Treatment to Live at By the Sea Recovery?

No. Men do not have to enroll in PHP or IOP to talk with me about living at our structured sober-living home in San Marcos. Even with only a few sober days or no recent treatment, you can call. I want to hear where you are today and what support you need.

I talk with each man about fit. If I believe the house alone may not be enough right now, I will tell him honestly and encourage him to find an appropriate independent treatment provider. BTS provides structured housing, not clinical care: we do not provide or prescribe treatment, assess eligibility for PHP or IOP, or bundle treatment with housing.

If you’re attending treatment elsewhere

If you’re already in PHP or IOP with an outside provider, tell me about the schedule when we talk. We can look at how you’ll get there and how treatment fits alongside house meetings, recovery activities, and your other responsibilities here. Your provider handles your treatment; I handle the decision about whether BTS is the right home for you. Housing and treatment are arranged separately, so please don’t assume that a place in one includes a place in the other or transportation between them.

From First Inquiry to Move-In

1. Family members can make the first inquiry.
2. We have an initial conversation about his situation, needs, and the house's expectations.
3. We arrange a visit to see the house; a virtual tour is also available.
4. I meet the prospective resident to discuss fit and support.
5. If the fit is right and a bed is available, I explain the bed offer and cost.
6. He decides whether to accept the offer.
7. After acceptance we go over paperwork, payment, and preparations.

What happens when you visit

You or your family are welcome to come see the house and ask me questions. Sometimes a family member visits first. That’s fine, but I’ll still need to meet the man who would live here before I decide whether to offer him a bed. We’ll talk about what he needs, what daily life in the house asks of him, and whether this feels like the right fit for everyone. If I offer a bed, you don’t have to make the decision while we’re standing together in the house. Take some time to think it over. If you accept, we’ll agree on a move-in date and go through the move-in process when you arrive.

Yes. Five sober days does not stop you from calling; it does not guarantee a bed.

Yes. Family can inquire or visit first. I also meet the prospective resident before deciding on fit.

Can someone attend outpatient treatment while living here?

Outside PHP or IOP may be compatible with BTS housing when appropriate, through an independent provider.

Does By the Sea Recovery provide treatment?

No. We provide structured housing, routine, and accountability, not clinical treatment.
